Sessions

Children may start in our Nursery from the term after they are 3. We usually take names of children wanting a place from the age of eighteen months.

Children are entitled to either 15 or 30 funded hours per week. We offer the following sessions (depending on availability): full days (30 hours), 5 mornings, 5 afternoons or 2 1/2 days (Mon, Tues & Wed am or Wed pm, Thurs, Fri).

Morning sessions begin at 8:40 am and finish at 11:45. Afternoon sessions begin at 12:15pm and finish at 3:15.

You can apply for a Nursery place by completing a Nursery Admissions form and handing it in to the school office.

If your child attends Nursery full time or for 2 1/2 days then they will either require a packed lunch or you can purchase a school meal at a cost of £2.68 per day.
Snack - Children will be given a choice of either milk or water and a piece of fruit for their snack during both the morning and afternoon sessions. We ask that children do not bring in their own snacks from home due to allergies.

What happens in the Nursery?
Most of the Nursery day is spent in play. Play is vital to children's growth and development; 'play' is a child's work and they become just as tired as adults do after a day’s work. Please do not underestimate the value of play!

The Nursery staff plan activities to meet the objectives from the Early Years curriculum. Staff plan carefully to match the needs of the children and activities are based on the children's interests.

We keep a record of each child’s progress and samples of their work are included in their Learning Journeys. Records of each child’s progress are passed on to the next teacher. We use Microsoft Teams to keep parents up to date with weekly activities and any whole school events. We ask parents to check Teams regularly to see what their children have been up to and we encourage parents to talk with their children about photographs that we share.

Absence
We expect children to attend Nursery regularly.  If your child is absent it is helpful if you let us know the reason for this as soon as possible.  Please ring the school on 0151 355 1735, if your child is likely to be absent for a long time please come and talk to us about it.
The demand for places is high so if your child does not attend regularly then it may be necessary for us to offer the place to the next child on the list.

Clothing
Children are expected to wear school uniform i.e blue sweatshirt, white polo shirt and grey pull up trousers or skirt. Girls may wear blue summer dresses in the summer. Shoes with velcro fastenings are best for ease of use and in encouraging children's independence.

We also ask that children are sent to Nursery with a spare change of clothes that can be kept in a bag on their pegs in case of any accidents.

Please ensure that all items of clothing are named - it is very difficult to reunite lost items of uniform with their owners if this is not done!

Homework
Story books will be sent home every Wednesday that can then be kept for that week. Other homework relating to what we have done or talked about in class will also be sent home as and when appropriate.
