Sessions
Children may start in our Nursery from the term after they are 3. We usually take names of children wanting a place from the age of eighteen months. We have 3 intakes through the year, September, January and April.
Children are entitled to 15 or 30 hours a week over a range of sessions. At Cambridge Road we offer, Full days, 5 Mornings, 5 Afternoons or 2 1/2 days (Mon, Tues & Wed am or Wed pm, Thurs, Fri).
You can apply for a Nursery place by completing a Nursery Admissions form and handing it in to the school office. You will then be contacted to arrange a Home Visit to meet yourself and your child.
Morning Sessions begin at 8.45am and finish at 11.45am. Afternoon Sessions begin at 12.15pm and finish at 3.15pm.
If your child attends for 2 1/2 or 5 days children will be supervised during the lunch break and will either require a packed lunch or can purchase a school meal (£2.25 a day).

Between 8.45 and 9.00 we have stay and play/read and between 3.00 and 3.15 come and play/read. During these sessions you will have the opportunity to come and play or read with your child and learn how to engage with your child. Nursery staff will model play including arts and crafts and give parents ideas for cheap and easy activities they can continue at home.

Snack
Children will be given milk and fruit during the morning and afternoon session.

What happens in the Nursery?
Most of the Nursery day is spent in play.  Without this, children are deprived of something which is vital to their growth and development.  This is their work and they become just as tired as adults do after a day’s work.

A child has a natural curiosity, which drives him/her to explore his/her environment so that through play he/she learns to know and understand it.  It is important that s/he should have freedom of movement where s/he learns from activities in a safe environment both indoors and out of doors.

Please don’t ever underestimate the value of play.  Deprived of it children will be unhappy and their growth will be stunted.

The Nursery staff  plan work carefully to match the needs of the children.  The focus for the work is based on the children's interests. Parents are welcome to help.

We keep a record of each child’s progress and samples of their work are included on SeeSaw and in their Learning Journeys. Records of each child’s progress are passed onto the next teacher.

Absence
We expect children to attend Nursery regularly.  If your child is absent it is helpful if you let us know the reason for this as soon as possible.  Please ring the school on 0151 355 1735, if your child is likely to be absent for a long time please come and talk to us about it.
The demand for places is high so if your child does not attend regularly then we usually offer the place to the next child on the list.

Clothing
We encourage the children to wear school uniform i.e Blue Sweatshirt, polo shirt and pull up trousers or skirt. Blue summer dresses in the summer.

Homework
Story Books will be given out for you to share with your child and will be changed every Wednesday.
We will let you know what we have been looking at that week and what we will be looking at the week after for you to discuss with your child.
During the the autumn term we will be looking at Ourselves, the children have a place to put up work they are proud of and it would be nice to bring in a photo of their family to display.
The children will be given phonic homework in line with our Read Write Inc Literacy Scheme.
Numeracy homework will be given to consolidate activities done in class.

Parent Interaction
In our classroom, we have a 'My Space' wall. This is somewhere to celebrate the children's acheivements. We will put up their favourite pieces of work. We would like to also celebrate their home achivements. Every half term your child will be given a seasonal piece of paper for you to write on something that your child has done at home that needs celebrating e.g. dance awards, learning to ride a bike, writing numbers, cleaning teeth, going to bed on time etc. These  will be displayed around 'My Space' in the classroom. By the end of the year our wall should be full. If you need extra paper please do not hesitate to ask. Please also bring in photos or certificates for the children to share with their peers.
